Whitney and I drove from Tucson Bicycle Classic to race CBR on Sunday with the points omnium in mind (I was 4th place in the series standings). The race was decently quick, my legs were a little stale from the 82 mile road race the day before but it was manageable. The travel and stage racing took a little bit of a toll on me mentally and I found it fairly difficult to move up in the windy sections and find speed where I normally had no issue. Whitney and Roz did a stellar job of animating the race and going for primes, and Sue Lin closed a few gaps for me while I was on her wheel. Unfortunately I was out of position for the final sprint and dragged it in for a top 10, but all in all our team’s synergy worked well and I’m looking forward to building that momentum for the rest of the season.

We had a full squad out in force on the day. The race started fairly quickly which was a welcome surprise for me. Everyone worked super well together to keep me in the wheels/out of the wind and made sure I got into the early break around 15 mins in. I went for a BAR prime, got it, and spent half a lap off the front to see what the field would do. When it was evident we were going to have a field sprint, Whitney and Roz rallied at the front to lead me out 3 laps to go. I hopped on the CBR points leader’s wheel when her team’s lead out overtook us, sprinted ahead of the swarm, and came in second on the day.

I’m really proud of how well the team is coming together to work cohesively as a unit and I’m happy to get a podium for them.
