Peet's Ride
Time: Saturday, gather at 9am. rolling by 9:15am
Start: Los Altos Chamber of Commerce Parking Lot (https://g.page/losaltoschamber?share)
Protocol: Double paceline where conditions allow, jamming as hard as you like on the 3 climbs (2nd Sandhill bump, Crystal Springs Rd., Huddart), regrouping & sticking together otherwise. Bring two water bottles as we don't plan to stop for water before the Water Temple on the return at mile 26.
Route: Foothill, Sandhill, Manzanita, Woodside, Canada, Bike Path, Polhemus, Crystal Springs Rd., 35 (short, on shoulder), 92 (short, on shoulder) Canada, Olive Hill, Kings, Greer, Kings, Mtn Home, Portola, Aratradero, Purrisima, Robleda
Regroups: Woodside, Canada X Bike Path (tho the goal is to stick together paceling on Canada), Crystal Springs Trailhead, Water Temple (again, we should all be together at this point), Woodside Store, Alpine, Page Mill
On the Peet's Ride we enjoy a more moderate workout than the other Alto Velo rides (tho a workout it is). We practice group riding skills & communication in a supportive controlled paceline. This route features several intermediate climbs that riders are welcome to attack as hard as you like. When not climbing, we aim to keep the group together.
RIDE SAFETY - READ THIS!
Introduce yourself to new riders. If you're a new rider, introduce yourself at the start of the ride. If you're new to group riding, make this known to the ride leader and ask for help.
Roll out from the start/regroups gently so everyone has a chance to warm up and get going.
Use hand signals and call out turns, stops and road obstructions. Repeat the message through the group.
Mechanicals: relay the message to the front. Help out the victim. Wait for the victim at the next regroup.
Follow behind the wheel in front to avoid the bunch spilling over the road.
If you leave a ride early, notify someone so the group doesn't think they lost yo
Ride a mostly non-rotating double paceline on the flats. Ride leader may initiate a rotating paceline at their discretion.
Riders should carry Medical ID that contains your name and emergency contact information. Additional helpful information includes any medical history. Two IDs are preferable.
Riders must always wear a helmet.
Riders are always responsible for their own safety. If you feel uncomfortable riding with the group, gently move to the rear of the group.
Look for yourself for cars and other road users, and OBEY TRAFFIC rules – you are responsible.
Do NOT cross the center line. You will be asked to leave the ride if you do so.
Protect your front wheel, do not cross wheels.
Do not make sudden lateral movements at any time.
Be gentle on brakes so as not to suddenly stop in front of someone.
No Aero Bar use
No Ear Bud or headphone use. It is important that you are able to hear warning calls and approaching traffic.
No sitting on the top tube when descending (or otherwise)
