Rules of Egan
What is Egan?
Every Tuesday during the Spring and Summer season, we organize a weekly route with hill climbing intervals. Intervals range from 25 seconds to 10 minutes. Most of those hills are short with a sharp incline. We climb local hills in Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Portola Valley and Woodside. We sprint and charge uphill. Max total elevation per route is roughly 2500 ft. After each sprint uphill, we regroup at the top of each segment, then go easy in between segments. This is a friendly no-drop ride. Each week we offer a different route with different intervals. Thus people do not get bored by doing the same route. We have co-leaders that take turns creating, doing recon and leading the route.
On Sunday afternoon, we usually send route information: Strava routes and segments. After each route, we publish a General GC classification for the entire route and each segment. Many Egan riders get personal PRs or local KOMs during this ride. Egan riders usually PR their favorite local climbs at the end of the season. It is a great fitness booster!
What is the Egan Culture?
Inclusive. It is open to all, including non-Alto Velo members.
Social (chat in between intervals, pre/post season event, ice cream party)
Supportive (example: faster riders cheering slower riders at the climbs)
Reachable. Available to a wide range of riders with different abilities from beginners to pro racers (MTB, Road, Crit)
Rock & roll
Fun. We love bright socks, beer and ice cream
