AV-B Ride September 30 2023 - Montebello and the 9

Hi AV-Bers,

This week marks the start of a very important local race series: Low Key Hill Climbers! Anyone else excited? For those who haven’t heard of it the basic premise is each week from now until Thanksgiving you ride the designated hill and then results are tallied on Strava for ultimate climbing glory. It’s free to enter but you have to register on the website (http://lowkeyhillclimbs.com/2023/).
The first hill for the series is Montebello, so this week we’re going to tackle that as part of the B-ride. We’ll head south along Foothill at a leisurely pace, before going full gas up the hill. After descending, we’ll have a water stop at the Canyon Picnic Area at the corner of Stevens Canyon Rd and Mt Eden before going up Redwood Gulch and the 9. Up to you whether you want to hold back on Montebello to save your legs for the second climb or go for glory with LKHC and risk blowing up.
We’ll then head along Skyline and down Page Mill, before going back to Backyard Brew for coffee.
